Mr. Byron Hayes, Jr.
It is with sadness that we inform you of the death of Mr. Byron Hayes Jr., a lay member in the California-Pacific Conference, on July 11, 2025. Mr. Hayes was the Chair of the Pacific and Southwest UM Foundation in the late 1970s, as well as the Chancellor of the conference at its creation, serving as Chancellor of the Pacific and Southwest Annual Conference starting in 1978, and continuing on as the Chancellor of the California-Pacific conference at its creation in 1985. As Chancellor, he started the Conference Lawyers Committee. He also prepared the first draft of a settlement agreement for the Pacific Homes litigation, and chaired the negotiating committee that finalized the settlement. Mr. Hayes received the Bishop's medal twice, and the Bishop's Award in 2017.

Gospel Lesson: Matthew 28:1-10, NRSV
After the Sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord, descending from heaven, came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning and his clothing white as snow. For fear of him the guards shook and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has been raised, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has been raised from the dead, and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him.’ This is my message for you.” So they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came to him, took hold of his feet, and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers and sisters to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”

HOLY COMMUNION
Invitation to the Table: As we understand the Body of Christ to be inclusive, we understand God’s table of grace and fellowship can extend into our homes. As you’re able, bring your own elements to this time.
Bread, Juice, Coffee, Muffins… the Body of Christ is comprised of wonder and mystery. Today, we celebrate that God can reach us where we are, even if we are not together.
The Great Mystery of our Faith
All: Christ has died
Christ is risen.
Christ will come again.
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
MUSIC: In Christ Alone - El Dorado
Benediction
And remember:
God is with you,
God is for you,
God refuses to be God without you.
And may all of God’s people say: Amen!
